Happy February! : A DIY "Chalkboard paint" project

HAPPY FEBRUARY ! can you believe its month 2 already!! I cant!! As I was thinking about the passing of time, and that we have been in Nashville a month already, I remembered I need A calender. Yes, I have one on my phone, but I really LOVE a real life calender, on the wall!! So I decided to make one!!

Okay, Okay, I KNOW..you have all seen chalkboard paint a jillion times, not to mention that it has sprinkled your Pinterest feed since the moment Pinterest was hatched! I felt the exact same way..UNTIL....I found a little bottle of craft sized Chalkboard paint, that I had purchased last year on clearance ( you know..I saw it for like..$1 and thought..hmm maybe one day). Well as we were  unpacking, it was found!! I remembered back to last years post on Design Thoughts, where I featured a friends  awesome Chalkboard wall and it gave me an idea! I had a large scale picture that didn't fit my home anymore...I didn't want to ruin it because it has sentimental value, but I also didn't have a place for it. Luckily, the picture was printed on a thick cardboard. I was able to flip the picture over, and paint the other side. I am so happy with how it turned out!! Here is what you need to do...

Find a thick piece of card stock, board or any other surface that can handle paint..

Get your supplies together and try to convince your 3.5 yr old to help..
(Sponge roller is much easier than paint brush)

Roll on the first coat once horizontal, then vertically.

Make a big fuss over your 3.5 yr old and how awesome he is doing ( see the pure JOY all over his face..hmmm)

Let it dry for an hour, then add second coat. ( read your directions, it may be longer for some)

Voila!! beautiful, but you're not done yet. Next you need to cover the entire surface with chalk, then clean it really good. This "sets" the paint.

And there you have it!! A beautiful DIY chalkboard Calender that I can change every month!!
I love it!!

Happy February!! we have a super busy month around here!! How about you?! big projects in the works? or little projects? I want to hear about em!!

Love, Kim
