The Great American Backyard Campout..A day late

Hi Everyone!!  Saturday was The "Great American Backyard Campout" which was organized by The National Wildlife Federation. They realize that today's kids have moved from outside, to inside, and this Backyard campout, is a way to get them excited about the outside again. I love this concept. G and I both have so many great memories of childhood nights, spent with our families, camping on the shores of Lake Michigan.  We both love camping, but it has gotten away from us, especially since moving to New York. Because of our sick puppy, which I mentioned in yesterdays post, we weren't able to camp out Saturday, so we gave it a try on Sunday.

As the night approached, I am not entirely sure who was more excited, Liam, who was doing tumbles in the tent, or Grant who woke up that morning, saying "tonight is the night!!" Grant made this such a special experience for Liam. He had him help "gather wood" ( Sticks) for the campfire, which by the way, G made out of an old cinder-block he found ( I  Love that man!!) and pick the perfect spot to set everything up, he had Liam help set up the tent, and explained in a very serious Daddy tone, the importance of fire safety.

As soon as the tent was set up in the perfect spot. Liam explained how it was an emergency, and he really needed to go inside to get his stuffed animals. So off he and daddy went to get the martians, and Gigi, Rawr, and JoJo.

After setting up, and getting each of his important stuffed animals, it was time to go in and change into jammies, so we could make Smores!!

I love this picture of Liam giving Grant a pat on the back, as Grant lit our fire :) My boys..

All set up and ready to SLEEP...except...sleep didnt happen as easily as we hoped. Liams bed time is 8:30...its still light at 8:30..by 9pm, we started giving Liam gentle warnings, "Okay Liam, I know this is super exciting, but stop taking your clothes off and screaming things like there's something in my Butt!! the neighbors might think we are strange. " At 9:30, it was finally dark, a dog barked, Liam got scared, and we went inside :) It was a perfect backyard campout. !

Get Some Clothes on!: Animal Instincts

Happy Monday Everyone!! Wow..what a weekend we had. Our poor littlest weenie dog Fransis, got very very sick. Thank god, after a trip to the vet, an IV of fluid, and antibiotics, she seems to be back to her normal self. SO scary when your animals get sick. We are still waiting for blood work to come back, and crossing fingers its nothing major. She has already survived one round of breast cancer, and unfortunately, while at the vet this weekend, they found another lump. I love my animals so much, which in a very odd way, inspired me to share an animal print that I found!

I am IN LOVE with this large poster print of a Zebra, on sale at Ikea this week!! Usually $49.99 but now $39.99. I have recently become obsessed with large scale prints, its 46" x 30" and would make a PERFECT piece right behind an entry console. You really cant go wrong with a black and white print.
I am way behind , and have so many things I want to get done today, and I feel like the day is almost over. I hate days like that!! SO, its a short post , and hopefully at some point this week I can share our postponed "Great American Campout" adventure, that we did on Sunday instead of Saturday, in our backyard :)

Enjoy the rest of your day!

Fan?

Hi! Happy Thursday!! Its suppose to be HOT HOT HOT in NYC today ( I'm talking 100 degrees people!!) SO as I was thinking about my love for summer, I was also thinking about the new fan that I need to add to my home office, which is THIS close to being done.

Like a lot of people,  I cant always buy the super amazing large piece with "character" so I will gladly buy a less expensive Ikea desk, because I appreciate clean lines, and a $68 price tag for a desk, and then I will add smaller pieces that add character and  life to a space. Remember, THIS is my desk, with white shelves above, very clean lines, so I want to add some "grit" to it, some texture. Take a look at a few of the fans I am considering!

I do this all the time. I start a search for the perfect ________ ( fill in the blank) and I become obsessed with  the first "cool" thing I see that fits what I am looking for. Typically..it needs to #1. Fit with in my budget, and #2. Make me excited!! this tiny(12") fan does both!! and I love the green piece in the middle...I will dream about you tonight little fan...From Reclaim (Brooklyn) on Etsy $42 (ps...sometimes I'm afraid to share what I love because I think someone might click on the link and buy it right away..then I remember  its only a ____ ( fill in the blank) so if it calls to you...stay away..its MINE  lol I'm kidding..)

The next one is creeping a little bit over my budget at $60..but its still a vintage piece, love the color, love the shape..From Ebay , it would certainly add some "Grit"~

This cute little black Zero Fan is Going for $50 on Ebay
And Although I wanted to stay UNDER $50, it can be mounted to the wall as well as desk top, and I kind of love that...

This  ( 10" ) Vintage Silver Fan is #2 on my want list!! I love the base, and I can totally see it on my shelves! And at $32 its totally UNDER my budget, which makes me super happy...Etsy Shop KPdreams

Those are my top four. I am still obsessing over number one, and am pretty sure that is the one I am going for. I have a trip planned on Saturday to go to my local Junk Shop, in hopes that i will get super lucky!! Cross your fingers for me!!
And enjoy your Thursday!! Are any of my readers in NYC?? How are you staying cool??

VIP access and Dumplings from a cart

Sunday was Fathers day, and for the last three years, we have driven to Harlem to watch the  Harlem Skyscraper Cycling Classic, hosted by Rockstar Games. Due to my husbands job, each year, we are treated to exclusive entry to the Rockstar Games VIP tent. Its a lovely way to spend a Sunday!! Free food ( this year from Dinosaur BBQ!) drinks,  front row seats to the bike race, and of course good company!.

Each year we go, I fall more and more in love with Harlem. I'm sure my growing love also comes along with having a child now, instead of a baby. The first year, I had a 10 month old who I was trying to nurse in 1,000 degree weather. The second year, I had a walking toddler who still wasn't talking very well, but WAS getting around very well, in 200 degree weather. Finally this year, an almost 3 year old. Walking, talking, dancing to the music, watching the racers, talking to people like he owned the place, and the the weather..70 degrees and sunny. BEAUTIFUL!

Now, lets talk about the dumplings, dumpling. Holy S!! for fellow NY'ers..you may know of a famous little food truck called Rickshaw Dumpling Bar ?? I thought so..are they not to DIE FOR?!! as soon as G and I saw the cart ( yes, the cart outside of the free food free drink VIP tent) we knew we had to scarf a few!! OH MY GOSH! they were amazing!! We talked about those effing dumplings until we were lying in bed drifting off to sleep. The last thing we said Sunday night was, I love you, I love you too, man those effing Dumplings were the shit! I'm not kidding... then, we moved on to the waffle cart, you know the one right? the one where they have homemade waffles with a ridiculous amount of Ice cream, Nutella and strawberries.? Then we let Liam have a waffle cone later that day. We won Parents of the year after that.
Here is my picture montage of the day...enjoy!

A little Sammy Jammy and Juice to start the day!

Moving on to ice cream cones

 And then..waffle ice cram delight!

and here is where my Camera stopped working for a brief second, and in my frantic way of trying to "fix" it...the setting ended up on some weird pop art mode..which I didnt even realize, until G tried to take a picture that night. So the color is a little whack..but I kind of dig it..

It was a great day in Harlem. I love days like these, where we get to experience the very things that draw us to this wonderful city!!

Enjoy your Tuesday!
